"Introspection" is a captivating sculpture that elegantly captures a moment of serene contemplation through its graceful depiction of a woman seated on a cushion.
The woman’s posture is both relaxed and poised, suggesting comfort and ease. She is seated with her knees placed together, and her legs folded gracefully to the side. The positioning of her right leg and foot beneath her left leg adds to the natural elegance of the composition, bringing a sense of fluidity to the piece.
Her upper arm gently rests against her body, and her left forearm is delicately positioned over her upper thighs, adding a soft and nurturing quality to her stance. The way she cradles herself embodies a sense of self-care and gentle reflection.
The backward push of her right shoulder and the extension of her right arm, with the right hand flat, palm side down to support her, further enhance the balance within the sculpture. This subtle backward extension gives the sculpture both stability and depth, emphasizing her connection to the cushion and the earth beneath her.
Her slight forward bend, coupled with a gaze fixed inwardly with a hint of a smile draws one into her world, allowing viewers to speculate on the nature of her pleasant thoughts.
This smile suggests a sense of contentment, joy, or perhaps a pleasant memory or thought that she is savouring. It adds a warm, human touch to the sculpture, making her not just a figure of contemplation, but one of relatable, universal pleasure.
"Introspection" is more than a simple depiction of a figure; it is an invitation to pause, reflect, and appreciate the moments of quiet contemplation that contribute to our inner harmony and joy.
The piece was sculpted in a 10-week life class. The model had incredible energy and always had a smile on her face. This is the finished wet clay sculpture.
It is available in bronze resin.
